I would certainly lie if I said that I know and
follow the activities of all the projects, and there is a number
of them, in which the members of MZ 412 are involved, be it
collectively or separately. Moreover, I would certainly lie
if I said that MZ 412 are among my favourites, but I found some
FOLKSTORM albums enjoyable. By saying all that I mean that I
didn't expect much from this CD with a flat-out chill and nihilistic
title. A quick glance at the artwork failed to undermine my
established conviction. All of us, however, like the moments
of pleasant surprise given by the apparently unlikely parties
and such a moment did come once the music started to play. The
guys haven't left the usual orbit of their activities but still
managed to add a new facet to their output, thus refuting some
possible accusations against the multiplication of musical entities.
"Cold Void of Nothing" seems the most melancholic
and subdued production among the works from MZ 412 constellation.
Yes, there aren't any rhythms nor flogging with noise here.
You can feel the breath, luckily not too stale, of old-school
industrial blended with minor atmosphere, bordering at times
with excellent dark ambient. Abundance certainly isn't included
in the Swedish guys' lexis in this case, for they apply the
sounds with moderation, unfortunately exaggerated in some places.
What came out excellent, however, is the reference to black
metal. Maybe not the vocals, as I cannot resist feeling them
to be out of place, but the raw guitars, as in the fourth track,
which pair off with black abysmal background of electronics,
giving the result which many a very-cold-and-very-Nordic black
warrior could only dream of. Despite being qualitatively and
quantitatively thin in some places, a good listen.

LAS O ZMIERZCHU
Wprawdzie nie miałem do tej pory okazji recenzować takiego rodzaju
muzyki, ani sam za bardzo nie siedzę w tych klimatach, ale materiał
ten bardzo mi się spodobał tak więc postanowiłem wysmarować
kilka zdań na jego temat. Nie będę tu używał jakiś bardziej
fachowych terminów, gdyż mógłbym się tym samym narazić na dekapitację
ze strony słuchających tego gatunku muzyki. Opiszę tylko kilka
przemyśleń, które przychodzą mi do głowy po przesłuchaniu tej
płyty. Muzykę na niej zawartą określiłbym mianem ambientu, ale
nie klawiszowej monotonii typu "Daudi Baldrs" Burzum
lecz raczej bardziej przestrzennych, industrialnych dźwięków
połączonych z tymi bardziej tradycyjnymi - jak odgłosy jakieś
mrocznej modlitwy czy nawet wycia wilków(?). Tu nie ma melodii,
jest tylko mieszanina różnych dziwnych odgłosów, sprzężeń, powtórzeń
które połączone razem tworzą niesamowity klimat, który wciąga
i nie pozwala znudzić się tą muzyką, po pierwszym czy drugim
przesłuchaniu. Ba, za każdym razem można słuchać tej płyty w
inny sposób, i odkrywać jej nowe, nieznane dotąd aspekty. Bo
ta z pozoru płytka i monotonna muzyka, po bliższym przesłuchaniu
staje się różnorodna i niejednolita, bo pojawiają się tu niekiedy
sprzeczne ze sobą dźwięki. O takich płytach ciężko mi pisać,
bo jak już napisałem na samym początku nie interesuje się za
bardzo takim rodzajem muzyki, ale ten materiał mogę polecić
każdemu kto lubi posłuchać czasem awangardowych, pokręconych
ale na swój sposób mrocznych dźwięków.

HEIMDALLR
Nordvargr / Drakh is the dark ambient side-project of MZ412,
a group rather known for their powerful and ravaging industrial
sound assaults. Sombre and hypnotic, the music progresses slowly,
in crescendo, to better infiltrate the soul. Unsettling incantations,
morbid and ritual, underline the malaise engendered by this
glaucous and divinely sordid atmosphere. Words suddenly emerge,
pervading an incandescent sonic magma, liberating an intrinsic
force that is hard to keep under control. A good dark ambient
album that aptly employs elements of industrial music without
denying the sound of their original group.
MARTWY
ZMIERZCH
Second album and it surely can`t be labeled as ambient. That`s
true that there are ambiental soundscapes on this CD, but there
are more industrial and noise sounds here - it`s kind a mixture
now. This time I don`t think that this tracks were supposed
to be released on their other projects - the music is in the
same style through the whole recording. The track I must specify
here is `Into Darkness Forever`, where we can hear the beautiful
guitar played by Drakhon (it`s much better than that on Nordvargr`s
`Awaken` album!) - this track is surely the best on this CD.
The last track is a bonus track and it`s the `Northern Dark
Supremacy` known from the first album. The music here is really
too calm for me - with some exceptions of course. The LP version
was planned but I don`t know if it was released.
